The Cubs win the World Series over the Detroit Tigers.

October 6, 1945 -
The curse is placed on the Chicago Cubs by
William "Billy Goat" Sianis when his goat is
ejected from Game 4 of the World Series. The Cubs
lose the Series in 7, and have yet to return.

September 9, 1969 -
A black cat circles near the Cubs dugout during a
crucial series at Shea Stadium. They would
fall out of first place two days later and never
recover.

July 4, 1973 -
Sam Sianis, a cousin of the late William Sianis,
attempts to bring a goat to Wrigley Field to lift the
curse off the first place Cubs. The goat is denied
admittance and the Cubs lose 16 of their next 20.

April 13, 1984 -
Sam is invited with his goat for Opening Day at Wrigley
Field. This would lead to the Cubs first playoff
appearance since 1945.

October 7, 1984 -
With no goat in sight, Leon Durham lets a ground ball,
and the Cubs season, roll through his legs in the
decisive Game 5 of the NLCS in San Diego. The Cubs
had led the Series 2-0.

1989 -
Cubs win the NL East, but are knocked out the playoffs
in 5 games.

September 28, 1998 -
Sam and his goat are invited into Wrigley Field prior to
the Cubs one game playoff for the NL Wild Card vs. the
Giants. The Cubs go on to win that game 5-4.

October 1998 -
With no goat again, the Cubs are swept by Atlanta in the
playoffs.

October 14, 2003 -
Following a deflected foul ball by fan Steve Bartman,
the Cubs implode in the eighth inning of Game 6 of the
NLCS. Having once again felt the wrath of the
curse, the Cubs go on to lose Game 7, their World Series
hopes dashed after having been only 5 outs away.

February 26, 2004 -
In
an effort to remove the curse, the infamous Bartman foul
ball is blown up at Harry Carey's Restaurant.

April 5, 2004 -
The
cover of Sports Illustrated proclaims, "Cubs Will Win
World Series".

Late September 2004 -
Up 1 1/2 games with 9 to play, the Cubs bullpen, and
season, goes down the drain, as they drop seven of nine
to finish third in the Wild Card race.

2005 Season
-
It was a lost season, as the injury bug doomed the Cubs
all year, one by one claiming Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry
Wood, Joe Borowski, and Aramis Ramirez, among others -
not the lineup fans want to see when they look at the
infirmary report.
